Carpenter Ants are large ants, 1/4” – 1/2” long; the winged ants are the reproductive ants, and swarm in the early Spring to early Summer. These ants do not eat the wood like termites, but excavate galleries into the wood for nesting. If left untreated they can create major damage to wood structures. Carpenter ants create two types of nests; main nests in damp wood that can accommodate the survival of eggs and younger larvae, and satellite nests usually in damp or dry wood to care for the older larvae and pupae. The nests found in houses are usually satellite nests that maintain communication with the main nest, which can be up to 300 yards away. Once a carpenter ant colony is eliminated from a structure, it may require an ongoing maintenance program to prevent future satellite colonies from re-establishing.

Thompson Interior Pest Control offers many treatment options for Carpenter Ants depending on the environment to be treated.
